Watercolour Christmas Project Kit Extended - #164

Only one more sleep before the new Autumn/Winter Catalogue is Launched!! Are you as excited as I am? Today I thought I would share one of my top picks with you, it is the 'Oh so Pretty' Watercolour Christmas Project Kit. This includes the basic card and embellishments for 20 cards, 5 each of 4 designs. You can either add the matching Stamp Set, ink and adhesives you need to complete the cards, or, if you are reasonably local to me, why not invite four friends over and arrange for me to join you one day or evening to make the cards up. This is a perfect way to start your Christmas Card making.

My video will show you some ideas on how to extend the kit to make a further 40+ cards just by adding a little more cardstock, a couple of ink pads and sequin trim (oh, and envelopes of course!) And when I say 40+, that really is an underestimate and only if you want some foil on every card, which you may not, you could actually make about 100 extra cards with what I am suggesting, all from one 20 card project kit. The foil is included in the kit as envelope liners, but in the UK this may mean you have to pay Large Letter postage due to the thickness, so let's not do that, let's use if as a feature on the card front! Including three packs of cardstock, 3 ink pads, sequin trim, the project kit and stamp set the cost would be about 80p per handmade card, including the envelope!!! AMAZING

Finally! Metric/Imperial conversions made SOOOO Easy! - #162

Do you ever have moments when you wonder where your brain has been for the past x days/weeks? Well I have just had one of those.

If you have followed me for any time at all, you will know that I struggle converting measurements from Imperial (inches, feet etc) into metric. I was born in the 1950s, so I was brought up on the Imperial system, and I understand it. I find the metric system really difficult to get my head around, particularly for smaller measurements.

What I have always found annoying is that on rulers that have both measurements, they are on opposite sides of the ruler, working from the opposite end, so I find myself having to flip the ruler all the time. BUT I finally have a simple way of sorting it all out. Using a couple of strips of Grid Paper, I now have a really simple conversion tool. I hope you find this as mind blowing as me!!

Moon Baby parachutes into a Petal Garden - #161

Welcome to the UK (excluding Scotland) August Bank Holiday. Traditionally today will be cold and wet, so I am hoping that we may be able to buck that trend and have some reasonable weather today, not least of all because the summer so far this year has been......dreadful. We had some extraordinarily hot days very early on, but most of July and August have been cool and wet.

With this in mind, it is great to use some of the amazing Petal Garden Designer Series Paper in today's project, bringing a little bit of summer into our lives. I have teamed it with more baby cuteness and the Moon Baby stamp set. I swore I would not buy this set, but with a few events coming up that are aimed at younger children and their parents and carers, it just fell into my shopping basket. I have to admit, I should have got it sooner, it is so cute.

I love using our Watercolour Pencils and the Blender Pen, although the key to these is to make sure that the stamped images are very dry before you start. I used Basic Black for these cards, but you could use Memento too, just as long as you leave everything to dry - I stamp one day and colour the following. hope you enjoy today's project and have a great day, whether it is a Bank Holiday where you are or not!

A Pretty Wild Teddy Bear in a Box (well you'd be wild, if you were in a Box) - #159

OK, I know, more cuteness, but I am getting ready for a stall at an event in a few weeks, so it really helps me if my projects bare (or should that be 'Bear'?) that in mind.

I found instructions for how to fold a facecloth/flannel into a Teddy Bear on Pinterest and knew that these would have to feature on my stall, add a box and some stamped tissue paper and it turns an ordinary item into a really sweet little gift, so what is not to love about that.

As you know, I love making boxes of all shapes and sizes, but these are huge, particularly when you remember that they only use two pieces of A4 card, with some scraps left over. The finished dimensions are 6 x 4 x 2" (15.25 x 10.1 x 5cm).

Dimensions needed to make the box are:
Base - 10 x 8" (25.4 x 20.3cm) scored at 2" (5cm) on each side
Lid - 9-1/16 x 7-1/16" (23 x 17.85cm) scored at 1-1/2" (3.75cm) on each side
The extra 1/16" (about 1mm) for the lid is so that it is a snug, not tight, fit, it is so much easier to add this tiny amount that fiddling it at the stage of making it up, and gives a much more professional finish.

Another Cuteness Warning - #158

I am on a bit of a Child and Baby theme at the moment as I am about to be a stall holder at some new events near us aimed specifically at Pre-School Children and their Parents and Carers. Those who know me will understand that this is not me at all, but I am actually really enjoying making the projects.

Today is a cute little card using the Bookcase Builder Stamp set and is inspired by a card I found on Pinterest. Unfortunately the person who posted the original did not watermark it and I am not able to find the original Pin, so can't give them the credit. This card also gives a sneak peek at one of the new punches in the Autumn/Winter Catalogue - I used it for the legs at the bottom of the chest of drawers, and it is perfect for this!

WOW This is a first for me and I LOVE IT!! - #157

For as long as I can remember, I have been looking at Box Frames that people have made from just a piece of cardstock. I was in awe of how they did it and did not imagine that I would be able to make one. WELL I DID IT!!!! I finally got my head around exactly what I need to do, I did have to watch a few videos before I fully understood how they work, but I hope I have explained it clearly on the video so you can make them too.

I think these would make really special Thank You gifts for people, possibly not with the image I have used here, but you get the idea. I can see all sorts of stamp sets working, and remember you can make rectangles as well as squares. All you need to remember is that your card needs to be 5" larger than the internal measurement of your frame (being 10 x 1/2", which is the depth of the frame). In this case the internal measurement is 3-1/4", so the card is 8-1/4 x 8-1/4". Oh now the metric version, that is going to get my brain working.

Let's think, the internal measurement is 8cm. I could give you the converted measurements from imperial to metric, but that just gets into the realms of silly measurements, so let's just make this more straightforward. The 'key' measurement, in addition to the internal size, is how deep your frame is, so you could either go down to 1cm, or up to 1.5cm. I think I would go down to 1cm, so your card would be 10 x 1cm larger, or 10cm; this gives you a base of 18cm. You would then score every 1cm, rather than every 1/2". Phew, done it!

Oh, and can I just say, my husband was amazed that these were made from card, he was convinced they were 'real' frames. Guess what, they are REAL frames!!

The Star on the Horizon is a reminder to get ahead with Christmas - #156

Have you noticed that I am struggling to find 'pithy' titles for my Why Not (get ahead with Christmas) Wednesday posts? I'm sorry they are getting a little desperate now! But there really is no bad time to start on your Christmas Cards, honestly, it will be upon us in no time at all. The slightly concerning thing for me is that most of our Family Birthdays are between the middle of October and the first week in December, so I still have lots of Birthday ideas to come up with; I think that may be why Christmas creeps up on me!

Anyway, I bought this set quite late on last year, but was delighted to see it carried over to the new Annual Catalogue because I love it. The dies can be a little fiddly to release, but if you have a look at my video you will see my hints and tips for those, which I hope you find useful; the very fine detail dies are some fo the few I would definitely suggest using with the Precision Base Plate - I have not listed it in the Product List, but you may want to add it (#139684).

I am really pleased with how this card turned out. I am not sure which version I prefer, but I think I am leaning towards the Copper version, although I may try the Gold on Very Vanilla and see if that tips the balance for me.

Have you mixed up your dies? I can help - #155

How many times have you made a card that uses lots of die sets and then got all in a bother trying to remember which ones belong to which set. I seem to do this too many times and it was a nightmare to sort out. I would look at the pictures in the catalogue, but they are so small, particularly if the dies are similar. Total NIGHTMARE!

Until I realised that the dies are ALL marked with the Stampin' Up! Item Number. What a result! Now I have used many brands of die and Stampin' Up! is the only company I know that marks their dies like this. So not only do they work with the matching stamp set, you can always make sure that you put them back in the right set. BRILLIANT!

You Are My Sunshine (and we all need that!) - #153

The weather in the UK is always a topic for conversation, bu this summer more so; it has been the most bizarre I can remember for a long time with stupidly hot days in early June and then real Jumper days in August. So I wanted at least one of my projects today to be sunny.

As it is Subtle Sunday that is quite easy using the warmer colours in the Family, and featuring Calypso Coral and So Saffron seemed the way to go, with just a few hints of pink with Blushing Bride and Pink Pirouette. The cooler version is not as 'sunny' but it is still a fun project and adding the Very Vanilla does add a little bit of warmth to the card.

I am really please with how they both worked out and now that I have three masks to use, I can see myself making more of these - maybe they will be my Thank You cards for August. I always send a Thank You to customers who shop with me. What I send varies and could include a hand made gift item as well as a share of any Hostess Rewards that we have earned as a group; my customers will get to share the full amount of those rewards, I keep none for myself. the rewards could be a share of ribbon of enamel shapes, or may even include a Hostess Stamp set.

I have had a few requests for some ideas using our Notecards and Envelopes, so here are a few cards I have put together using the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp set. This set is new to the 17/18 Annual Catalogue, but it has images that use the Classic Label and Balloon Punches. I love new products that work with what I already have.

I think a box of Notecards makes a really thoughtful gift, be that for the hostess of a dinner, or the hostess of a Stampin' Up! Party (blatant plug here, if you would like a set, just arrange to host a party with your friends, either in person of via Facebook, and I will give you a box!)

Friends don't let Friends Wine Alone Especially on Friday - #151

I am hoping that today's video is not quite as mad as the offering yesterday, that was just total meltdown (go take a look if you missed it, it will make you laugh if nothing else!). Today's cards use the Mixed Drinks stamp set. This is one of the first sets I bought after I became a Demo just over a year ago. It is such a fun and versatile set and I love the sentiments!

The set is a really good introduction to two step stamping, you stamp the outline of your glass and then fill in the liquid. I really love that it is so easy to use and that you can build up your drinks to be as fancy, or not, as you like. Add ice cubes, straws or an umbrella as you see fit. Brilliant!

The other element I really like on these cards is the Washi Tape to add a pop behind the main element. I think this is an overlooked product, but it is so easy to use and for the amount you get in a pack, the most amazing value for money, particularly this year where the packs are in colour groups, rather than in Product Suites, which means they can be used on many more projects. If you don't have any Washi Tape (why?!?!?!) you could use narrow strips of paper instead. Oh, and of course you have to add some Wink of Stella, I mean it is a sparkling drink right?

I am not convinced that this post will actually make it onto the Internet when it is meant to. We have been having 'issues' with our Internet, which means some websites are fine and some less so (and all points in between). So it is with only a small amount of hope that I am publishing this

I would like to suggest this is the reason today's video is even more stupid than usual, but I think it may be just a lack of concentration on my part.

Anyway, this is a really quick and (supposedly) easy little bag to make using just a small square of Designer Series Paper, this time from the Colour Theory stack.
