When I came to design my project I thought about doing a simple card, but then memories of going through Chemotherapy kept coming back to me and I thought I would like to create something that I would have been touched to have received during this time.
I think we are all too aware of the impact that Chemo can take on your body with hair lose, sickness, weight gain, the list is horrible and long. Strangely one of the things that I found most annoying was the way that it mucked about with my taste buds, so I would suck sweets a lot (which may have been part of the reason for the weight gain of course!) My project is a sweet holder, specifically a Large Size Strawberry Fields TicTac holder (the pink just seemed to be the right way to go). I am hoping that the messages and the Ribbon of Courage will help to give any Breast Cancer fighter a little boost.
Please take the time to visit as many of the hoppers as you can, they all have wonderful projects to share, and some amazing stories. The next person on the list is Connie Babbert, please take the time to visit her blog
Dimensions and all the other usual stuff is below the list of hoppers.

ReplyDeleteHi Jan, I am so pleased you enjoyed the project. We have the odd thing with my family that I was diagnosed before my Mother (also a 5 year survivor), but we were diagnosed within four months of each other. This disease sucks! Lx
DeleteIt's awareness that has been a huge factor in higher detection rates and better treatments as a result of what's been learned along the way on those of us who've gone through it. It would be a nice little reminder to give out to encourage people to get their mammograms. Mine was discovered in October, as then was my mother's a couple of years later, and then my sister's a year after that. I always schedule my mammogram around my October birthday and found it was the best gift I ever gave myself. Each day is a milestone, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, I will edit my post to remind people to get their regular checks sorted out as a priority! My Mother was diagnosed about four months after me, and I am happy to say that at nearly 87, she is still with us and a great lady! In the UK you get called for your mammogram as part of the NHS prevention, but that is not to say you should ignore anything in between! I am grateful for every day I am still here and free of the disease. Be positive and fight every day! Lx
DeleteWhat a great project! Thanks for sharing your story along with your project. Early detection is most assuredly our greatest chance! God Bless
ReplyDeleteThank you Katrina! I was extremely lucky, but you are right, early detection does give the highest chance. Lx
DeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Lx
DeleteThank you for sharing your sweet holder and the reason behind creating it.
ReplyDeleteAaaah, Thank you for popping by. Lx
DeleteWhat a fabulous idea. I hope you're over your ordeal and being blessed each day ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am happy to say I am five years clear and grateful for every day that continues. Lx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to create a treat holder. This would be a special gift to give someone going through chemo as I'm sure it would brighten their day a bit thinking of how thoughtful the giver was. Thank you for sharing your story.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, sorry not to have thanked you for your kind comments sooner. Lx
