The Precision Base Plate and Die Brush, and what they are for - #148

Welcome back to Top Tip Tuesday. Today I am covering the Precision Base Plate and Die Brush. There does seem to be a little confusion about the Precision Base Plate and when it should be used. I have heard of some people who use it at all times, which is fine, but it is not necessary, and can result in having to replace your normal Cutting Mats more frequently, and I mean a lot more frequently.

Detailed Florals Die Cut Card in Fresh Fig

I have had a BigShot Machine for at least 20 years. In that time I have had to replace my base plates twice. The first time was when my original set broke after I had used them for about 16 years, and in fact it was only one that broke. The only other time I have had to replace my normal plates is having used them with the Precision Base Plate for one particular project that I needed a lot of fine die cutting for and I was told that for the particular dies I was using, I MUST use the Precision Plate. The normal plate is now so bowed as to be unusable.

My recommendation would now be to try NOT using the Precision Plate and if you can get a good cut without, then don't use it. Makes sense, right? I have used this plate in today's video because I know that for my BigShot and the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies I need to do so. I know this because I have tried without!!

The Die Brush, however, makes getting all those annoying little pieces out of the die SOOO much easier. I keep the foam mat for mine in a Full Wood Stamp Case so that the annoying little pieces are contained within it and can just be tipped out when you are done.

I hope you find this helpful. Let me know if there are any other questions you have about this, or anything else, and I can address them in a future Top Tip Tuesday.
